The IPL is back and on Saturday we have the first game of the tournament to look forward to.
Things are going to be very different this time around, with the biggest change being that these games will all take place in the UAE, not in India.
However, some form of the IPL is better than none at all, and for fans it is time to sit back, relax and enjoy the action on show.
First up, the reigning champions, Mumbai Indians, take on the Chennai Super Kings, a clash of two heavyweights and the only game taking place on Saturday that we can place a cricket bet on.
Mumbai Indians Team News
The Mumbai Indians come here as current trophy holders and once again it appears they have an excellent squad of players to choose from. Look through their ranks and you will see many match winners, both with the bat and ball.
Players such as Rohit Sharma, Chris Lynn and Hardik Pandya can dominate with the bat, while their seam attack which includes Nathan Coulter-Nile, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult looks fantastic.
This isn’t a team with any particular strength, a reason why they won the IPL last season and don’t be surprised to see them in the knockout stages this time around trying to win another title.
Chennai Super Kings Team News
Those not picking the Mumbai Indians to win the 2020 IPL probably have the Chennai Super Kings as their tip to win it. Don’t be surprised at all if this matchup is repeated in the final in November.
The Super Kings are three-time winners of the competition, as recently as 2018 and they are led by influential captain MS Dhoni, who recently retired from international cricket.
It’s not just Dhoni bringing experience, this team is stacked with players like Shane Watson, Imran Tahir, Ravindra Jadeja and Faf du Plessis all hugely experienced in both T20 cricket and international cricket.
With international cricket behind him, it would be quite apt for MS Dhoni to hit the ground running in the IPL and show that he is far from finished as a T20 cricketer.
The experienced captain of the Chennai Super Kings is our tip to be the star man and lead his team to victory. This will be through excellent captaincy, while we also fancy him to score a few runs with the bat to help his team home.
These two teams would love to win this game to put an early marker down to their opponents and the rest of the IPL. Although we like the Indians, and expect them to go close again, the Chennai Super Kings are slightly better than them and are our betting tip to win the IPL season opener.
This should be a fantastic start, both teams are evenly matched, and both have big game experience.
Look out for the best odds you can get on betting sites for the Super Kings to start well, push to win this tournament and get the better of the current champions in this season opener on Saturday.
